Napoleon Dynamite

August22

On Sunday I went with Katie to Napoleon Dynamite, and oh my gosh, that was the funniest movie ever! Wow, it was hilarious. It’s funny—when you read the reviews for it on the internet, you can pretty much tell the age of the critic by how they rated it. My parents’ generation thought it was the mother of all lame movies, but anyone under twenty-five admitted to peeing themselves laughing the whole way through. Basically, if you’ve been in high school recently and can laugh at stupid things, I think you’d like it.

Yesterday after yoga I went to Swinton’s with Jen for new paint brushes, and we also went to a scrapbook store to look at the decorative paper. Jen wants it for her birthday… the decorative paper… yes! I will have to remember which ones! Also, I made her a keychain of her favourite emoticon (named Hermin) so she was happy about that.

On the way home, my balloon keychain broke, spewing what kind of looked like cocaine (we found out later that it was corn starch…) so we bought new ones at the dollar store and had a burial ceremony for the old one (and the hair of Jen’s old one) in my back yard. It was truly beautiful.

She Changes the Air

August19

Nothing can get me down today!

Today was my last day of work for the summer. Hurray! It was pretty quiet at work today considering it was just Sandy and me in corporate communications. But it was so cool because just as I was walking through the HR department to leave, everyone was gathered around Bea’s door. Turns out her brother was there with his guitar! Bea was like, “hey, it’s Colette’s last day, how about you play her a song?” so he did, and wow, it was fantastic. And Jen thinks I’m a cold emotionless freak. That is crap! Normal people do not cry on the last day of their boring job!!

Maybe I will opt to go for dinner tomorrow to celebrate my completion of ATCO!

Up In The Air

August18

So here’s the story—on Monday, Sandy indicated that I probably would not have enough work to do all week, so I’d might as well take Friday off. Well, after I had cried and cried, I grudgingly agreed. (Hah!) I was happy about Friday, and Monday went by pretty quickly. I went shopping with Jen for nail polish but we ended up just buying chocolate and hand lotion. We played cribbage with my brother after, and Jen won of course!

Tuesday, uh oh! They might have work for me on Friday! That was a bit mean! Actually, at this point, it doesn’t matter much to me whether I go to work on Friday or not, I just kind of want it over with. After supper I went with Cailee to Angie’s house and we watched the finale of Summerland and then got ice cream. I hadn’t seen them in a while so it was really nice.

Today… umm… cerebral cortex injury… what happened today? Oh yeah! Katie and Kim and Jen came to see me at lunch and we went to Subway! Best lunch all summer!! Kim bought an ice tea and it made a sound like a gong on the wrought iron table! Good times! We also went to an art gallery and a camera store. Awe, I’m so happy I got to see my buddies, it made me want to hurl myself out the window and kill myself so much less! Hehe! Work went by kind of quickly today, too, I guess.

I’m getting nervous about school now. I have too much thinking time at work. Aaah! Oh, and Friday is still up in the air. Sandy said something about Sara not wanting to be alone (since Sandy is taking the day off). I can totally understand that. I was alone in the office once this summer, it was bad. Thing is, I don’t make very good company considering I can never think of anything to say… like… ever. Or maybe she just doesn’t want to answer the phone all day? Possible. I hate that phone. Shuudderrrr.

So… one or two more days of work! Yay?

Zoo With Day Camp

August15

Just one more week of work! Whee!!

I’ve been having a great time this weekend! First, going to the zoo on Friday with day camp was fun like usual. Before lunch, things went pretty smoothly with the kids. After lunch, though, Tawny decided to merge groups with Will because it would be easier (easier how? I don’t know. I have a feeling someone has a little crushy on Will…). Turns out, it was not ‘easier’ because when doing head counts, Jenelle and I couldn’t keep our kids separate from Will’s. Anyways, we realized at one point that we’d lost one of the girls but another day camp group had found her. So it worked out in the end but was still a bit frustrating. Overall the zoo was fun, though.

Then that evening I went to Kim’s for movie night. And I loved it because with Katie back, everything was normal and alright again! She even French braided my hair!

The next day, I went with Katie and Kim and Jen to Pizza Hut for lunch. After that, Kim and Katie and I went to the Stepford Wives (good movie for cheap theatres) and back to my house to play frisbee. So fun! Katie is improving… no worries!

And today I basically did nothing. Jen stopped by with some feedback on the skeleton of a web comic plan I showed her. Man, thinking of a name for this thing is going to be impossible…!

More Files

August12

Longest day of work… so long… thought it would never end…

It wasn’t too bad apart from it being so long. Angela left me a chocolate bar and a nice pile of filing! It is actually a good thing because it’s the worst to have nothing to do. So today I was going through the miscellaneous files again. Eh, it’s not so bad I guess.

One of the ladies from work has her last day tomorrow so there was a little do for her this afternoon. Olivia asked me to watch her phones which I was glad to do since she’s definitely saved my butt several times this summer. (She’s so nice and sends all the stuff Angela needs couriered because I don’t know how!) But it was daunting since I was answering phones for most of floors five and six. One guy, I swear, did not know English…

Anyways, after work I went directly to daycamp to make hot dogs and paint faces! It was very fun again! I’m going to the zoo with the kids tomorrow!

Precious Katie

August11

Today was a very long day of work. I’ve almost run out of things to do there, but I suppose that is good because it means the end is near! Heh! My next assignment is to compare prices on balloon bouquets. For some reason I’m a bit nervous about it. I hope I don’t screw it up.

Tonight was Inn From the Cold again at church so Jen and I got there earlier, but there were a lot of other people helping, so there wasn’t a lot to do. After that we went to Second Cup with Katie because she is back!!! It’s so exciting! (Don’t worry Jen, you are still my one and only anima.) We came back to my house for awhile and then went to Katie’s to watch the DVD of her bursary in Quebec. It was gorgeous and so well put-together. I wish I could make movies that nice! I think I need a better program than Premiere, though.

When we were leaving Katie’s, Jen said to me, ‘well, now you have your precious Katie back! I think your precious Katie can give you a ride home!’ and proceeded to drive away without me… I had to chase her car all the way to Lake Bonavista drive… well I guess that’s not very far, but still!

Another good thing that happened this week besides Katie coming back was that I got permission to take Friday off of work so I can go to the zoo with daycamp. I’m happy about that!

Farewell and Yoga

August10

Let’s see… I guess today was a good day! Angela is going on vacation this week and isn’t coming back until after I’m done, so we went for my “farewell lunch” at the Mongolie Grill. It was fantastic! I really liked it, I hope I can go back there sometime.

This week has gone quite slowly considering I have been filing papers for most of it. I guess I don’t mind too much, though.

Then after work I went to yoga with Jen again, except we accidentally went to a mixed class instead of a beginner’s class. It was only a bit different but I think I’ve gotten used to Ian’s way of teaching. In any case I am really running low on money now, heh!

After yoga Jen came over and we watched Love Actually. It was a very sweet movie but now Jen thinks I’m a cold hard emotionless person since I didn’t cry in multiple parts of it. It’s not true! I’m very emotional and often melodramatic!

And Katie is home, hurray!

Red Streaks

August7

I’ve just gotten back from Strands and I like my new haircut and highlights quite a lot. It might be slightly too light in the front but all in all it’s pretty cool! It’ll look good once it’s grown out a little, too. That’s what I found the last time I got streaks. They were way too light that time but this time they’re red. It’s awesome.

It’s Connor’s birthday today but I can’t wish him a happy birthday because him and all his brothers are in Nova Scotia. I want to visit there one day but this summer was pretty much dedicated to work and sleep.

I really was a skeptic regarding Jen’s theory that the universe hates her, but now after reading her wasp story I think I believe her. At least a bird didn’t fly into her face while she was on a roller coaster though, like what happened to Fabio! Although she does have her entire life left to accomplish that, really.

She broke the forum, too.

I feel like it’s been a long time since I’ve talked to Cailee and Angie so we’re trying to find a time we can all get together but it’s difficult because we’re busy. Hopefully it happens because I miss them.

Week in Review

August6

Well, this week has been pretty good overall I’d say. The only bad thing really was that stomach pain. It was pretty bad on Tuesday so I stayed home from work and went to the doctor. It seems I had some sort of stomach irritation. The doctor gave me medication for an ulcer, which freaked me out a bit, but I don’t think that’s what it is. I mean, ulcers are related to stress. I haven’t been stressed lately. I’ve been happy and excited and very, very bored, but not stressed.

One thing I’ve been pondering though. What do I bring with me on my first day of SAIT? Like… high school stuff like binders and lined paper? Maybe they will specify on the orientation day? Well. Still, not stressed. Apprehensive. Yes.

On Wednesday I went with my family and the Buzans & Wilsons & Manlows to Luciano’s. It was great because I had an unobstructed view of Emily’s baby, Paige, the whole time, yay! Aww, she is so adorable. Can’t wait till I have one! Well, I kind of can. It’s going to drive me crazy when it comes time to name my kids. I love tons of names, how will I choose one? Good thing I have tons of time to think that one over.

Sara was back at the office today—she’s been in Red Deer the past few days. I hadn’t seen her in a while since I took last week off but I think she dyed her hair or got highlights, maybe. In any case it looks awesome but I couldn’t tell her because there was never really an opportune time to do so and I didn’t want to interrupt her in anything. So I have an appointment at Strands tomorrow, but still, it’s a lost cause; I highly doubt I’ll ever actually like my hair but it can’t hurt to try, right? It’s extra stupid in the summer because of the humidity.

Ohh, and best thing ever! I got to go home at four today because I worked hard all day (at least that’s what Sandy said). I think she just may have just felt bad that I had to file papers all day, plus it was Friday, but I was so happy to go home early!

Last night was the third night I dreamed that Katie came back early. What’s wrong with my subconscious mind? It misses her even more than my conscious mind? Isn’t there something significant about having dreams in threes? Either way, she should be back soon, so…

Kim’s Birthday

August2

Today is my last day off of work, and I don’t know but I think that makes me pretty sad! But these ten days off have been super fun and action packed!

On Saturday I went to Jen’s house and we made Kim’s birthday cake. It was… well.. an interesting experience! I have to say, she is actually very good at baking (unlike me!) but she gets crazy ideas like bubble tape and skittles and kool-aid! What scares me the most is that the next birthday is… mine. And Kim may not have the power to say no to Jen and her bubble tape. Yikes!

When we were done making the cake we played Trivial Pursuit with Jen’s cousin, and then we met Kim and Alex and Kristine and Sarah and Steph at Moxie’s for dinner. We finished with lots of time before the movie but unfortunately DDR was out of order. Eventually the movie (The Village) started and I was pleased to experience that Jen grabbed my arm without using her nails (for the most part…) during the tense scenes. Overall though it really was not scary, and I thought the plot lacked in comparison to M. Night Shymalan’s other films. Still, it was a great night.

The next day Jen and I kidnapped Kim, blindfolded her with my coat and we took her to destinations including Red Lobster, Laser Quest, Blockbuster and my house where we ate cake and definitely did not watch the Sailor Moon movie! I think Kim was a bit afraid of the cake but can we really blame her? It was left at my house so I probably made myself a bit sick finishing it. Perhaps that is why I have a pain in my stomach today? It only hurts when I breathe! I should write a song about it… oh, wait.

Fourteen more days of work at ATCO ‘evar’!
