Last Week of Summer

August24

Wow, guess what? Kristen and Kim are back in two days. Yes, then I’m going to ask them if I got good teachers. Or maybe I should see for myself? I don’t know. Well today I bought new shoes!! We went to Petcetera and there were totally cute hamsters there. Mike was at Sylvan lake today so we went for Chinese food. Just one more week of summer, nooo!

High School Schedule

August23

Today I got my schedule at school. Apart from having Phys. Ed. second semester, it was exactly how I desired it. Plus, mom says second semester gym might be a better than first. Well I’m considering it a good omen for high school. The teachers I have this semester are: Ms. Flock, Mrs. Nelson, Ms. Wowkodaw and Mr. Neufeld. I hope they like me. In the spring I’ll have Mrs. Donald, Ms. Williams, Ms. Chenier and Mr. O’Brien. Maybe I’ll know who they are before I get them when my courses change.

Day Camp Counselor

August21

Being a counselor at Day Camp was really fun. I was with the grade three and fours. Last year I had the kindergartens but there are advantages to having older kids. The classes were really big this year and I didn’t get to know my kids as well as last year, plus there was no field trip. On Wednesday night I babysat Sammy’s cousins, Spencer, Brayden and Parker. Spencer and Brayden were identical twins. We walked to McDonalds and let’s just say, I’d never been so happy to see the golden arches. The twins were on rollerblades and Parker was on his bike. We played Super Smash Brothers when we got home.

On Friday I went to Les Misérables and it was so awesome. We went to the air show in Lethbridge on Saturday and to Stafford Lake on Sunday. Linda and Rick had their new sea-doo and it was very fun. Derek took Kim and I and tried to turn too sharply and dumped us all in the drink!

Stupid Boys

August4

Summer’s been pretty good so far. I’ve gone to Sikome Lake, Lethbridge, Waterton, and Mini Golfing with my family. Kim, Gloria and Janice have been away and Sarah’s leaving soon. I’ve been doing a lot of reading lately which is good. Day camp is drawing nearer and since we didn’t get into Green Bay this year, Day Camp should be a really good part of my summer.

Uncle Rick, Aunt Linda and Dustin are here right now. Of course, Mike has become the obligatory caustic dickweed he usually becomes when Dustin visits; constantly sneering internally because he’s a boy and he knows lots about ‘Diablo’, so naturally Dustin hangs out with him. He adopts new words that he never usually uses: ’sweet’, ‘chick’, etc. instead of ’saccharine’ and ‘prepubescent poultry’ etc. Also, adding ‘-age’ to the end of every verb in his vocabulary. He becomes someone he just isn’t. What he doesn’t know (or maybe he does) is that if I were a boy and he were a girl, Dustin would pay as much attention to him as he does a piece of lint on the floor. (i.e., Mike isn’t his right-hand-man when Daniel is here, that is for sure.) It’s all an age/gender thing.

Cures for Cancer

July12

I suppose I’ve been pretty busy lately. We went to LaserQuest for Kim’s birthday party but I didn’t do well at all! We’d made Kim a strawberry cake earlier on and phoned Joy to say that we were and to tell Kim that she has a surprise cake. When we showed it to here, Kim said, “Sorry Janice. See, my mom got me a surprise cake…” and Sarah pointed to the one Janice had and we all started laughing. It was great. We watched ‘The Wedding Planner’ after Laser Quest.

On Monday, mom drove Mike to Camp Harmattan with Riley and Sherry so Kendra and I just hung out here. We went to 7-Eleven and watched a movie and it was fun. She invited me to her birthday party, which was really cute, but as Mrs. Macdonell would say, “I have cures for Cancer growing in my room and I really have to set aside some time to disinfect it!”

On Tuesday we went shopping and then I went to Kevin’s house to start planning the site. Mom and I went to the zoo on Wednesday and I babysat Dillon’s cousins from around 5:00 to 10:00. They’re really cute too. And finally, today I just aggressively cleaned my room. It’s spotless. It’s perfect. It’s scary.

Pure Summer

July4

Today I went to Mrs. McRae’s house. She has really cute cats. Afterwards, Sarah and I walked down to Deer Run looking for Josh’s house but we didn’t find it so we talked to Lauren for a bit. We walked to Janice’s house and then all three of us went to Erin’s. We all got soaked with the hose playing basketball but it was fun. After the note burning party on Tuesday, we went to Haultain and the whole gang was there—Mike, Tyler, Cass, Dean, Mark, Tim, etc. It was awesome but the bugs were really bad that night.

Watching What I Say

July3

I know that anything I say to Melanie right now can and will be used against me all in good time. That, my friend, is why I am injecting sugar into my every word when I speak to her. I am going so far as to suggest to myself that she’s only fraternizing with me for the sole purpose of getting me to say something mean to her or about my friends. But it won’t happen because I have nothing mean to say.

Grade Nine Graduation

June28

Graduation was really sad. You know, as every name was called individually, I couldn’t help thinking how much I’m going to miss everyone next year. I really hope that I’m in someone’s class next year that I know. Everybody looked so nice and I got to sit beside Mike and Mark and I got three awards. (Please give me ten million dollars so I don’t have to go to school anymore, oh, magic lamp of learning…)

All the while I was completely dreading what number I’d be looking at when I looked at my math Provincial mark later that night… but it seems my dread was in vain… 90%! I started to cry, honestly. Just the combination of everything… I just burst into tears. Mark beat me on every exam but one and I didn’t even care! That’s how happy I was. We took group grad pictures by my grade eight locker and I got a picture of Mark and I in front of the school. I was informed by Alison and Flo that he was blushing, hahaha! They were laughing so hard at him. It was such a good night… and even now I feel like taking a megaphone and telling the world my math mark! Yay!

Uncertainty

June21

Well, well, well, I’m almost finished the schoolyear. I had the science exam this morning. It was fun.. yup… Anyway, then I went to Dairy Queen with Kim, Sarah, Gloria and Jan. Then we went to my house then the park then my house again. It was awesome. I got my grad dress yesterday. It has roses on it. I don’t know what’s ahead of me in High School but I bet it’ll be okay.

Such An Awesome Year

June16

Only two more days of school; I am going to cry! It’s been such an awesome year. So many smiles and so many tears. I took a long, hot bath but I think it was too long because I feel feverish still. There’s a huge booklet due Monday in math and we’re having show and tell in LA.
